English Springer Spaniel is an intelligent dog who catch on to new things easily. The Springer is the right choice for either a city or country home because they are so eager to please, loyal and like people. Many owner find humor in their energetic and playful animals that bring a smile to their faces. Springers are excellent all around dogs. Good training can bring excellent results in many fields, including agility, tracking, retrieving, obedience, hunting, and field trials. They are the perfect choice for families because they are so wonderful with children. Of course as with any dog breed, children should always be supervised to make sure they are not antagonizing the dog.

Owners will be satisfied with a Springer because they are so friendly and eager to please. There are people who use the sweet temperament of a Golden Retriever to describe the Springer’s personality. If it is what their families are doing, they are perfectly content with just laying around the house. They are very flexible and acclimate easily to various activity levels, as long as they are allowed to be with people as much as possible. Being a long breeder of a variety of puppies, we can attest to their absolute friendliness.

Normally weighing between 35-55 pounds at adulthood this is the English Springer Spaniel breed which is medium in size. Springers can remain in good health most of their lives which can span 10 to 14 years. There are two types of Springer Spaniels, those that are field bred, and those that are show bred. The field bred variety has a shorter coat and a more active temperament than the show bred variety. All Springers have their tails docked shortly after birth, but the length of the tail differs between two “lifestyles.” The tails are docked shorter for Springers who are shown, whereas the working, field-bred Springers have longer tails so as to be an efficient signal for hunting.

The coat colors for English Springer Spaniels comes in either two combinations of black and white or liver and white. There does exist a tri-color combination in the breed where the coat is black, liver, and white, but it is much more rare and generally requires both the sire and dam to be tri-color also. These are easily recognised by the white flash that runs down the middle of their faces.

Bred to be natural hunter, English Springer Spaniels, have alot of energy so you can expect them to enjoy running aroung, sniffing out “game” and retrieving things for you. Springers are happy to spend all day outside with their masters, they love water and are not particularly sensitive to weather in general. Being a very old breed they have been popular dogs for a long, long time. These canines are often regarded as one of the oldest and best established gun dog and hunting breeds.

Hopefully, you can understand the reasons that we believe Springers are a good option for a variety of lifestyles. These loving animals can find a place in anyones heart and home which is something we have experienced.
